Cartoon Forum Polska Trailer

Here’s the trailer from the cartoon forum we made this summer. We had super little time to do it, but fortunately I had this project waiting to be applied for something like this. Here I posted some sketches from before, and a design look of the project while it was originally planned for a music video.  Beleive or  not it was inspired from a Vasarelly poster (Olympische Spiele Munchen 1972), especially the colors, the characters came in a way later, and were formed into birds. Many of the people suggested they looked like gun’s bullets, the reason is, because they were inspired from bullets :)

below a sneak peak from the love bullets, the original never-made project, which was turned into the birds of cartoon forum polska.

Fugue

Sometime in February I was asked by Jerzy Kucia in Krakow to jump on board on the production of his new film for e few weeks. It is still not finished, and therefore I am not allowed to show any excerpt. Finally I got so motivated that I am still working on it, and put my personal projects aside for a while. But the real thing for me was to work on a film which included so many different and classic techniques, also some vintage retro computing -see the image – I could again paint and work under a camera, and guess what… animate trees! This is also the first time in my life, that I am a payed worker on an art film! I start to like Poland even more :)

Bathory Epxressz

One of the crazy things I was involved this spring, was a project called Batory Epxress*. It was comissioned by the Hungarian Center in Krakow and it was connected to the European presidency of Hungary and Poland (both this year). There is not too much about it in English, so let me just introduce the idea: and old Polish mini van called “Nysa” went to 15 cities in Hungary and Poland during one month to collect stories and memories about the “friendship” of the two nations.

before and after :)

There was a lot of adventures, we organized a lot of events and happenings in every city, and we just had one month to prepare everything, so really I still can t beleive how we did it. (Also counting with the day-to-day unexpected problems… ) Amongst some of my favourite things were the Loesje workshops and happenings of Miej Miejsce in Lodz.  The final of the project is a big album of the documentations and photos brought by the citizens of the two countries.

oh, and also it was also a last-minite, do-it-for-yesterday graphic project for me :)

*= Bathory Expressz was one of the only train connection between Poland and Hungary during the communist time

“A spiritual journey”

End of feb beginning of march, three of us (Kasia, Ola) came up with a plan to do a conceptual trip, called “a spiritual journey”, which was finished by the time we came back from it, but never presented (yet). It was a run away to Germany, with no time or money restriction (which means we had no money), of course ended up spending days and days in Berlin at random people’s houses, but the real concept were into the themes and documentation of the whole thing. We had a scenario – taken from various existing films – and were looking for things/situation/places to fulfil it, and I was quite amazed how it turned out. We had to ended the whole thing thanks to another project which got financed at the same time, so we headed back after 10 days in hope to finish the thing with and exhibition, mostly photos, drawings and text and music, and I hope in the autumn we can finish it.

9th Hungarian Film Spring

almost forgot to post it here, the last poster I did for the Hungarian Film Spring, which this year is also including some slight pro-film funding-propaganda

(eg keep watering the films in memorian Hungarian Film Fund and Media Programme and so on)

interestingly enough I got the praying Polish pope next to it at some places

2011 is offline

2011 is the year “offline” for me.

I decided late January, less twitter and facebook, even less cs3 cs4 cs5 cs234, wacoms and mouses sleeping in the corner, back to the good old paper.

Another reason is, last few years I found that the ideas I kept coming up were quite OK and fresh, but because of the globalization of (internet) brainstorming, all the other creative people were coming up with very similar – or even same ideas – in the very same time. No matter what, if all the brain sees the same things, after a while this is unavoidable. At the beginning of the online era internet was a great, new and fresh phenomena for new influences, bust most of all a very effective research and inspiration pool. But after this first decade it has completely killed any kind of originality. It has became its very own trap. Lacking of fresh air, and even when finding it immediately colonising it. Was it the internet or the creative industry, I don t know, but even in animation, there are too many of deja vus… In a designers life once the time is coming when it has to stop!  Let s go offline for a while then! (there are several nice and smart articles about this, this is more like a personal “cry”)

this thoughts are also a part of “think global art local” idea a few artists with me made up in Januray.

pixel cats disappeared, cut out letters (by hand) welcome! :)

some updates to end the winter

1. Apparently I managed to finish my first semester as a doctoral student, yay :)

2. Lately I had so many conversation and idea exchanges about some urgent, and less urgent but interesting subjects concerning animation and motion design in the first decade of 2000,  so I decided I will try to publish time to time some thoughts and researches here as well.

3. Silent Touch is selected for Bethere Fest and My Turn for Anifest in Czech

4. last but not least, we are still busy to prepare and introduce our very international freelance-made studio and collective, but as most of us is busy as hell, we have to postpone it over and over.

and a snapshot from presenting some works prepared for the future project in Krakow:

5.  oh yes, and before I forget, a new short is coming,  hopefully ready by Summer!
